Framework 17 introduces Progressive Web App (PWA) capabilities to sites, makes "page last updated" and "page feedback" functionality available to all themes, and improves the appearance of the Document Section template in search results.
Note that upgrading to this framework will also require an update to your website theme to make use of the new features.
Progressive Web App
Progressive web applications (PWAs) combine the installability and integrated feel of native apps with the universality and capability of web apps. There's a good introduction to PWAs in the Mozilla developer documentation: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Progressive_web_apps/Introduction (opens new window)
In this release of our site frameworks you can set any of your sites to act as a PWA simply by checking a box in the subsite settings. See the Progressive Web App (PWA) article for more information.
Page Last Updated and Page Feedback
Our website themes provide distinctive styles and layouts to the sites built on our platform, but sometimes there are features in one theme that we'd all love to have in another.
We taken the page last updated information from Chill, and the page feedback bar from Command, and made them part of the core site frameworks. The feedback bar has also been updated to match the GOV.UK site, sending a Google Analytics event for "positive" responses - you could then display these in the iCM website metrics tab.
When you upgrade to framework 17 these options won't be enabled by default, but you can turn them on in your subsite settings. See Article Feedback for more information.
Document Template
When we originally designed the Document and Document Section templates we only thought about them as a single entity. A number of users quite rightly pointed out that the Section templates will appear in your site search, and without the context of the parent Document, their titles didn't make much sense.
Now when a Section template appears in search results you'll see the Document title too.
