Building a New Website
Content
Creating a new subsite definition creates all of the content roots for your new subsite and a homepage article.
Whichever theme you choose for your site, there are certain articles you'll need to create. The following article structure could be copied from one of your existing sites, or downloaded and imported from the downloads section of this page (note that if you have imported this file once before you won't be able to import it a second time).
Article | Description |
---|---|
Top utilities | This article should be scheduled "off". It's picked in your subsite configuration and its child articles will be output in the header of most themes |
Bottom utilities | This article should be scheduled "off". It's picked in your subsite configuration and its child articles will be output in the footer of most themes |
Cookies | Every site should have an article using the Cookie Policy Template and Banner that explains the cookies your site uses and has third party providers set up in its article extras |
Hidden articles | This article should be scheduled "off". The articles in this section can still be visited, but generally won't appear in your site menus or search |
Error pages | This article should be scheduled "off". It's a holding area for the three types of error page article, each of which needs to be picked in your subsite configuration |
Site alert | This one is optional. Any article (or none) can be picked in your subsite configuration as an alert banner that will appear on every page |
Search | This one is optional. You could put your site search in your main site navigation, or in the top or bottom utilities |
The remaining articles under the home page will make up the majority of your site content. Most themes build a menu directly from this content, or you might have to pick top level menu article in the theme configuration.
