A forum will have multiple threads in it. Each thread is typically a different conversation or topic.
A thread will have multiple messages within it, one for each reply or post in response to the opening thread.
This article describes manually creating threads and messages in iCM. Of course, in a normal situation threads and messages would be created by users of your website.
Creating, Editing and Deleting Threads
To create a new thread, right-click on a forum and select "Create a thread". To edit an existing thread, double click on it.
Threads have the following properties.

| Parent forum | The forum this thread is in. Threads can be moved to another forum using the "Select" button |
| Approved | If a thread is in a moderated forum, the approved checkbox will need to be checked before it is visible on the site. Once a thread has been approved it cannot be "un-approved" |
To delete a thread, right-click on it and select "Delete this thread". The thread and all messages in it will be deleted.
Threads are not subject to version history, so once deleted cannot be restored.
Creating, Editing and Deleting Messages
To create a message, right click on a thread and select "Create a message". To edit an existing message, double-click on it. Messages can also be created in reply to other messages within a thread.
Messages have the following properties.

| Parent message | The message this message is in reply to (zero if this is a direct reply to a thread topic) |
| Approved | If a message is in a moderated forum, the approved checkbox will need to be checked before it is visible on the site. Once approved a message cannot be "un-approved" |
To move a message to another forum, thread or beneath another message, use the "Select" button to select a new location.
To delete a message, right-click on it and select "Delete this message". The message and all messages in reply to it will be deleted.
Messages are not subject to version history, so once deleted cannot be restored.
Approving Threads and Messages
If a forum is marked as moderated, all new threads and messages posted in it will have to be approved before they appear on the site.
Users who have iCM Privileges that allow them to edit threads and messages that require approval will see a task on the iCM home page or forum work area called "Awaiting Approval Threads/Messages". Double clicking on this task will take the user to the list of threads and messages that require approval.
To approve a thread or message, double-click on it, open the Properties tab, and check the appropriate checkbox.
Threads and messages can also be viewed, deleted, edited and exported by right-clicking on them from the approval list.
