Managing Subsites

To create a new subsite in iCM right-click on the zone you would like to create it in and select "Create a subsite". Complete the configuration using the relevant sections of this documentation.

This article is about subsites in iCM. For a more comprehensive guide, see Building a New Website.

When you create a new subsite iCM will automatically create a homepage article for it in the article library.

iCM's Autoconfig has a setting which will "preserve top level articles". Enabling this setting will prevent anyone manually creating or deleting subsite homepages. Creating and deleting subsites themselves becomes the only way to create a new article root.

Subsite Aliases

Every subsite has a primary URL defined in the subsite Subsite Properties.

It is also possible to configure alternative, alias URLs for your site. This URL is not a redirect, rather an alternative address that the site and iCM will respond on. Note, the domain name will also have to point to your IP address for these settings to have any effect.

Right-click on the subsite you would like to create an alias for and select "Create a subsite alias". Enter a description and the alias URL. The URL should not include a trailing '/'.

Deleting a Subsite or Alias

This option will delete a subsite, its aliases and its content.

By default, removing a subsite will not remove the content associated with it, just the subsite details, its iCM group and main (administrative) iCM user. If you also wish to remove the site content, ensure that the "Delete site content" checkbox is selected - all articles, media, links, features, events, forums, polls and metadata used by the subsite will then be deleted, provided that the root content items are not used by any other subsites.

Confirm the deletion by choosing "Delete this [alias/subsite]" from the actions panel.

View Subsite Content Root Items

Right-clicking on a subsite and selecting "View subsite content root" will display all of the root items used by this site. You can edit each by right-clicking on them.
