Signing-up and Managing Subscriptions

Subscriptions can be used whether or not you have an account on the site (and whether or not you are logged in). Because subscribed topics are stored against an email address, you could set up subscriptions while not logged in, then create an account, sign in, and still have access to those subscriptions.

Setup

A subscriptions management form should be created for each of the subsites you want to make use of the product. See Subscriptions Setup - Creating the Manage Subscription Form.

Verifying your Email Address

This step is skipped if you're logged in, or if the URL parameters include a user's object ID and email address (eg when following a link from a subscription email)

The first page of the form asks the user to enter their email address:

Enter Email

The form will then send an email to the specified address with a PIN the user must enter on the second page to continue:

Enter PIN

The email is generated using the PIN email template for the subsite. See Subscriptions Setup - Email Templates.

Subscription Preferences

The main "edit" page of the form displays the subjects that can be subscribed to in a series of checkboxes.

Subscription Preferences

Subject areas are organised into groups. Within each group is a topic. Each topic holds a series of checkboxes. Groups and their topics are defined in the Subscriptions Setup - Configuration and are built from iCM metadata properties and values.

Users can select checkboxes for the subjects they are interested in, or use the "all" checkbox above each group to subscribe or unsubscribe from all subjects in that group.

Pressing the "Subscribe" button updates the user's preferences and displays a confirmation message.

Unsubscribe

If a user already has subscriptions, returning to the form they'll also see an "unsubscribe button". This will remove all of their subscriptions and display a confirmation message.
