Pulse

Introduction

Websites built on the GOSS Digital Platform are about so much more than great content - they are the place to go for your users to access and interact with all of the services you deliver. Those services will rely on and integrate with a wide range of third-party and backend systems, and having visibility of the health of those systems is vital for delivering performant and stable applications.

Pulse provides a monitoring service that can be set up and accessed via iCM, giving you a central hub with oversight of all of the external components you rely on. It can be used to poll URLs and end points to check the health of a service, including its availability, response times, and any failures.

The monitoring dashboards highlight poorly performing services before they turn into failures, and let you quickly diagnose where a fault lies so it can be fixed at source and get you back online as quickly as possible.

Example

Pulse is accessed via an iCM Form App on the iCM homepage (ie a shortcut when you log into iCM), which will need to be set up manually and assigned to an appropriate iCM user group.

It provides a dashboard of the services that are being monitored:

A service can also be inspected to view more details:

Pulse can be used in two ways:

  • Heartbeat Mode polls a URL or end point every five minutes and the results can be viewed from the dashboard
  • Live Service Mode provides a wrapper you can use when your service (end points, form submissions etc) is called, logging the results in Pulse
