This field can be used to group fields within the forms designer. It doesn't have any impact on the behaviour or visibility of the form fields placed in it when published on your site.
Design groups can be collapsed, minimising the space the fields within them take up. We've found it useful if a page on your form has a large number of, for example, form variable fields at the top of a page.
