Configurable Redirect

This version of the Redirect template lets you add custom URL parameters to your redirect links.

When a user follows the redirect link, the template looks up values from their user profile and adds them to the URL. You'd normally use this to create a link to a search article (for example Case Search) to automatically perform a search.

In the template's article extras you choose fields from your user profile form, then name URL parameters you'd like to map them to.

Page Title

The page title is used when the article appears in lists, navigation menus, inlines, related content and search results. It can be overridden using the article's alternate link text in the same way as the Default template.

Page Content

Although articles using the Redirect template do not display any content of their own, article summary and introductory text (and related image depending on your site's theme) will appear in search results and list items, in the same way as the Default template.

Article Extras - URL Parameters

The article extras are used to set up the mappings between user profile fields and URL parameters.

Configurable Redirect Extras

Enter the name of a profile field and the URL parameter you'd like to map to. Field names should be added in capitals.

The query string parameter names will depend on what it is you are linking to (there are some examples below). The case you use for parameter names is maintained in your URL.

In the example above, following the redirect link would result in www.my-website.com/article/1125/Test?initiatorName=Tim&[email protected]

If your mapping includes a profile field which doesn't exist, or doesn't have a value, the parameter won't be added - only valid fields with values are used.

Related Content - Redirect Targets

The link you want to redirect to is set up in the same way as a standard redirect - relate an article to this article, which the user will be redirected to.

Security Considerations and External Links

This feature takes user profile values and adds them to a URL, making them visible and accessible to the target page. Make sure you redirect to appropriate articles.

Redirects to external links never append parameters.

Assisted Service

If you are assisting a user via Assisted Service, the details of the user being assisted are used in the URL.

Example Uses

We've built this template mainly to use when:

  • Creating shortcuts from the "User Details" pop-up on the Assisted Service Template
  • Assisting a user and following a link to Case Search. Any URL parameters will automatically populate the search fields. Useful parameters are:
    • initiatorName - the name of the person who raised the case (as seen in the screenshot above)
    • address - search for an address
    • email - search by email address
    • phoneNumber - search by phone number
    • keywords - the keyword search field
