Adding Links, Emails and Anchors

The text editor provides options to addling hyperlinks, email addresses and anchors within a text block.

To insert a link, press the "Link" button on the toolbar or use the Ctrl+L keyboard shortcut. To include text as part of the link, first select the text and then press the toolbar button. If no text is selected, the link URL or e-mail address will appear in the document as-is.

Linking to a URL

URL is the default link type that lets you add a website address to your content. The following details will need to be specified:

  • Protocol - the communication protocol used with the web address. You can choose between the following options: http://, https://, ftp://,news://, or <other>.
  • URL - the web address of the resource that the link is pointing to.

The following information may optionally be provided on the "Advanced" tab:

  • Advisory title - the text of the tooltip that is shown when the mouse cursor hovers over the link.
  • Relationship - the relationship between the current document and the linked document. The HTML4 link types are supported by default, namely: alternate, appendix, bookmark, chapter, contents, copyright, external, glossary, help, index, next, prev, section, start, stylesheet, subsection

Linking to an Anchor in the Text

If you want to point to an anchor previously inserted in the editor's content, select "Link to anchor in the text" from the "Link Type" drop-down list. You will be then be able to select the anchor from the drop-down list provided on the "Link Info" tab.

Linking to an Email Address

If you want to add a hyperlinked e-mail address to your content, select "E-mail" from the "Link Type" drop-down list. When you choose this link type, the following options will be available on the "Link Info" tab, to allow you to configure the recipient and the message content:

  • E-Mail Address - the address of the recipient of the e-mail message. This field is obligatory for the e-mail link to work
  • Message Subject - the default text that will be pasted into the subject line of the e-mail message
  • Message Body - the default text that will be pasted into the e-mail message as its content

This option allows a link to be removed from the editor's content.

Move your cursor into the linked text and press the "Unlink" button to  remove the link and leave plain text. You can also right-click on the link and choose the "Unlink" menu option.

Anchor

Anchor

Anchors create markers in your text that you can create links to, such as: Anchor to the top of this page.

Creating an Anchor

To insert an anchor, press the "Anchor" button on the toolbar. To include text as part of the anchor, first select the text and then press the toolbar button. To create an anchor, enter its name in the "Anchor Name" text box. Once you click "OK" a red flag icon will appear in your content to mark its position.

Removing an Anchor

Right click on an anchor and choose the "Remove Anchor" command. This option removes the anchor from the editor's content and leaves plain text.
